The design of the building followed an early Masterplanning Study for the Milford Care Centre Campus which we carried out. The design solution sought to relocate the Main Building Entrance into a new ‘Hub’ with access in three directions to (a) the existiing Nursing Home, (b) the existing Daycare Centre and (c) the new Palliative Care Unit. The new build area is circa 3,750 sq. m. and in predominantly a two storey building with 34 Patient Bedrooms and 4 Family Overnight Bedrooms along with support accommodation. The plan is an L-shaped configuration with the Nurses Station located at the central corner for greatest efficiency. Due to the existing ground levels, we succeeded in achieving a part Lower Ground Floor which accommodates the Mortuary as well as Plant Rooms. A single storey link accomodates the new Main Reception and this forms the new ‘Hub’ and also provides access to the Therapeutic Gardens. The overall design solution has been praised by the Client for its success in connecting into the existing facilities and rationalising the Main Entrance and circulation leading to maximum efficiencies in terms of connectivity to shared services and facilities. The construction methodology is simple and straightforward leading to lower construction costs which was particularly important given that much of the Client budget is derived from fundraising and charitable donations.
